Listeners

In all radio broadcasting it's hard to know just who is listening.

We invite audience feedback about programmes on the Radio Reading Service.

It is a huge encouragement to our many volunteers when listeners share their thoughts about programmes heard on the Radio Reading Service.  The Radio Reading Service volunteers ask listeners to tell us what they think, like or dislike about our programme content.

The Radio Reading Service is here to turn print into sound and produce readings by radio.  Our spoken word programme is ideal for people new to New Zealand and wanting to learn English.

Whilst people who are Blind, Aged, Physically impaired or Dyslexic are prominent amongst the Radio Reading Service audience there are many others who listen.

The Radio Reading Service is on air for every person in New Zealand who might like to listen.  We are here to turn print into sound for anyone who finds it difficult to read conventional print.

Research indicates about one million New Zealand citizens are non readers. Some 42 percent of working age New Zealander's have inadequate reading skills to cope in the modern workplace.   At the Radio Reading Service we believe everyone in Aotearoa NZ has a right to conveniently access the station when needed. Listeners come from every walk of life.

We think people without a full, fresh information supply under achieve and may have minimal enjoyment of life. Their economic, cultural, social, family and personal welfare is at threat when reading is a problem.

The Radio Reading Service has a valuable role providing comprehensive, news and information. Information sharing is essential to preservation of our national heritage and cultural identity.

Many people who can not read feel isolated from the real world because they lack knowledge of what is going on around them.  The Radio Reading Service can help by providing Listeners with timely and useful information about real life matters in the world where they live.  We are here to turn print into sound for anyone who finds it difficult to read conventional print
