Newsletter November 2011

Christmas is fast approaching and we have set a date for our Christmas ‘get-together’. It is Tuesday December 6th at 2.30pm in the lunch room on the first floor of the RRS building.

Ken and Adrian recently met with Felicity Hutcheon and Neil Jarvis from the Blind Foundation. Issues discussed were the wish to continue regular ongoing communication, linking our service with theirs in most practical ways, and considering RRS programme changes that would be of interest to their members.

At the board planning meeting last month we signed off on our Activity Plan for the coming year. Such activities include continued partnership development, marketing and promotion of RRS, programming review, support for our volunteers, completion and management of the website, and funding and financial management.

In this newsletter we profile two more members of our board:

Adrian Kealey is now retired after managing small businesses

for Feltex and Silver Fern Farms in Rotorua, Dunedin, Auckland & finally Levin, where he moved to in 1986. He enjoys the quieter life travelling NZ with Avril, his partner of 20 years in their caravan. Grandchildren are taking up an increasing amount of time, much to their delight. He has been at RRS for 4 years.

Chloe Eastham started at the RRS in February 1994 as an evening reader of the ‘Evening Post’. She then learned the operator role and helped in the change to computers and the shift to our present premises. Chloe became Station Manager a few years ago and says that thanks to the co-operation of the staff and great band of Volunteers and the Board’s support, the RRS is thriving today.

We wish you all a happy Christmas that is filled with all the things and people that you would wish. We look forward to seeing many of you at our

Christmas ‘get-together’.

Tuesday December 6th @                   2.30pm.
